The Methane Molecule - E-Yong Lee

Molecule 3D render

Introduction

Methane. (Science: chemistry) A light, colourless, hydrocarbon which is toxic by both inhalation and skin exposure. Also infamously known for being the main substance found in flatulence (the bodily function is actually made up of 59% nitrogen and 21% hydrogen, just saying.) Nevertheless, this blog will explore the structure, composition and characteristics of Methane. Methane contains carbon and hydrogen in the ratio of 1:4 respectively. Since methane is both a powerful greenhouse gas and the simplest and most effective hydrocarbon. It is the main gas found in natural gas piped for use in homes, used to generate electricity and is even used as rocket fuel.

Hydrogen Cyanide (Hydrogen, Carbon, Nitrogen)

Atoms are the building blocks of all matter that we can touch, affect and be affected by. They each contain varying numbers of protons, electrons and neutrons that make up hundreds of thousands of different elements, molecules and compounds used both by nature and humans. These can range from a simple oxygen molecule (O2) to more complicated compounds such as Methamphetamine, C20H15N. One such molecule is HCN; Hydrogen Cyanide.

VRBox world

VRBox world

Recently, I am working on a project about using VR CardBoard to view the 3D models or worlds created on VRMath2 website. So far, a prototype is avaiable for iPhone (tested on iPhone 6 only) capable of viewing most x3d files generated from VRMath2 Editor. However, there is no easy interface yet from it (mobile in CardBoard) to navigate x3d files. But there are three ways to start with.

I have been contemplating the animation framework and recently implemented a SPIN command to make spin animation easy for even young children. In order to show how to spin objects, I have created this hydrogen atom simulation to demonstrate the SPIN and a few new commands.
