STAR Project Lesson Plans
Dear Teachers and Lesson Designers, there are five initial lesson plans for the STAR Project (Trial 1). Please click on the lesson below to view/comment on the lesson plans.
Lesson 1: Geo-Quest
- What is the background information of the children, in regards to maths and computer/ video game usage?
- What are the geometric understandings about 2D, 3D shapes, and angles of grade 4 to 7 students in relation to Van Hiele’s levels?
- What is the children’s understanding of cardinal points?
Lesson 2: Meet the turtle
- What are the spatial orientation and spatial visualisation capabilities of the children?
- How well do the children navigate through the 3D environment?
Lesson 3: Square in 3D space
- What are the children’s spatial abilities and geometric understandings of location and movement when creating 2D polygons in a 3D environment?
Lesson 4: Walk a cube
- What are the children’s understandings of location and movement when creating a cube in a 3D environment?
Lesson 5: The amazing maze rescue
Research Questions:
- Way finding, primed search, spatial orientation – aware of their direction.
- How do the children complete a primed search, wayfinding task? (A searching task in which the navigator knows the location of the target. The search is non-exhaustive)
-
What search behaviour and search strategies do the children exhibit? What are the children’s strategies to:
- Orientate through the space? (Are they aware of their direction?)
- Find the turtle?
- Remember where things (environmental, background info) are?
- Know which routes to take? (Do the children look in 3D but think in 2D i.e. from a bird’s eye view?)
